Modernist Poems : Activity identiy Modernist metaphors in these short poems
1)
“Darkness” : Joseph Campbell
Darkness
I stop to watch a star shine
In the boghole a
Star no loger, but a
Silverative
ribbon of light.
I look at it and pass on.
Darkness title shows some negative thoughts and mood of poet. Star shine showe some hope and positiveness for life. Poems show is the emergence of a distinctly modern style of poetry that rejects the gushing excesses of the worst Victorian verse.
2)
“Image” : Edward Storer
Forsaken Lovers,
Burning to a chaste white
Moon
Upon strange pyres of
Loneliness and
Drought.
Here poet may be interpret the he shows one couple and with the use of word burning shows hateness for love.
3)
“In a station of the metro” : Ezra
Pound
The apparition of these faces
In the Crowd;
petals on a wet, black bough.
Ezra Pound described metro station and people who are on this station. She says that how we become puppets of feeling less life. It talks about the repetitive life of modern people like a living dead.
4)
“ The embankment” : T.E.Hulme
Once, in finesse of fiddles
Found I ecstasy,
In a flash of gold heels on the
hard pavement.
Now see I
That warmth’s the very stuff
of poesy.
Oh, god, make small
The old star-eaten blanket of
The sky,
That I may fold it round me
And in comfort lie.
Modernist literature at first seems difficult to understand. In this poem, Hale is trying to escape form earthily realities and wants himself to be wind up with comfortable lies.
5)
“Insouciance”: Richard Aldington
In and out of the dreary
Trenches
Trudging cheerily under the
Stars
I make for myself little
Poems
Delicate as a flock of doves
They fly away like
whitewinged
Doves.
The poem represents about war. Here poet says that he is tired and he want freedom or he wants to free from his responsibility.
6)
“The Pool” : Hilda Doolittle
Are you alive?
I touch you.
You quiver like a sea-fish.
I Cover you with my net.
What are you banded one?
Here in this poem “The Pool” an image of in our mind word stored wrer. Water is like purity and rebirth. The lyric has a hint of a sentiment antonomous life where it is hard for a person to survive. So the illustration utilized “ trembling seafish “ and power controls this sort of person.
7)
“ Morning at the Window” : T.S.Eliot
Ther are rattling breakfast
Plates in basement kitchens,
And along the trampled edges of the street
I am aware of the damp souls of housemaid
Sprouting despondently at are a gates.
The brown waves of for foss up to me
Twisted faces from the bottom of the street,
And tear from a passerdy with muddy skirts
An aimless smile that hovers in the air
And vanishes along the level of the roofs.
The picture is that of a morning . T.s.Eliot is writing the poem form the point of the housemaid who is constantly engaged with lots of work.
8)
“ The Red Wheelbarrow “ : William Carlos Williams
So much depends upon
A rod wheel
Barrow
Glazed with rain
Water
Beside the white
Chicken.
Poet has used many symbols here. The first line is colloquial and open in its invitation, the second line, the preposition “upon” prepares the reader for the specifics to follow . The whole poem is symbolicall.
9)
“ Anecdote of the Jar “ : Wallace
Stevens
I placed a jae in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
It Made the slovenly wilderness
Surround that hill.
The Wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The Jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.
It took dominion everwhere.
The Jar was gray and bare.
It did not give of bird or bush.
Like nothing else in Tennessee.
Through this poem we can understand that how life. Becomes mixer of both the things And indirectly we can . Say it is hybridization. As same in our country we are eating both the things pizza as well as rotala.

This is the best poem amongst all given here. Poet have marvelously captured the image of falling leaves in the poem. Words even are falling in the poem, just like leaf. Broken into pieces, and with that word and leaf, loneliness also fals and spreads in the mind of reader.
