A Prayer for my Daughter......
The poem is addressed to his daughter. This is the prayer for is daughter . The father wants her to become beautiful and virtues for this . He uses symbolics he wishes her to become a flourishing hidden tree. It seems that the father is possessive.
The poem begins with storm . It is approaching and his child is sleeping. It would be hard wind. As the child is unknown to it there is the no protection. She would grow up beautiful but the beauty should not to make any other person distract. Beauty is not the only aim. There should be natural kindness . There are woman like Helen and Aphrodite both were beautiful. But they made mistakes and choose a wrong person. As husband It is the poet's experience that halts are maced means beauty can be achieved by good manners and virtues. It is not necessary to look beauty word beauty can cheat any body.
The poet wishes his Daughter to be like a flourishing hidden tree. She should be like some groom later tree. It's root should be deep so that nothing can removed it if from the plains. It means beauty should be in the mind out of his experience the poet tells that men have been cheated by beauty. They are not loved but they think that they are lived mind of such beautiful women are full of ego. There is one word for " Opinionated" they forget the reality and selects wrong persons hatred should be driven away from the soul.It will show radical emotions. Finally the father wishes the Daughter get a fine husband and be happy.

Beginning of the poem suggests the storm. It is distractive and is on the way. It was to destroy tower, house or ever trees. This is indication of future problems for her father's protection is shown through the words like.
" Curdle hood " and "Cover-lid"
Tree suggests stability as a laurel. It stands against storm and not be up rooted.

It's was in love with Maud gone . She was a beautiful lady. Both of them once together for Irish independent movement. He wanted to marry her but she refused and married to another person . He felt cheated.
These references are made clear by Greek mythology . Helen was the queen of Greece. She felt her husband Menelaus and chose another man parish similarly Aphrodite considered goodness of love. She chose a mean husband and left Hephaestus mind gone did the same and married to old and angry person " Major make bridge"
At the back ground of the poem. There if England . Ireland conflict. The Irish people wanted Independent during lies a revolt was crushed down by the English. This tension is refereed by the Strom and gloom even the word . " Trouble in the fourth stanza indicates the same."
