My Grand Mother by Elizabeth Jennings
" Elizabeth jennings" was a morned English poet. She was born 1926, and died 2001. By profession she was a librarian she was a traditional romantic poet a reputation was based on her lyrical poetry. She belonged to " To the movement grow" well know poets Philip larker and Kingsley. Arin's were also members of the group. " My Grand Mother " is a relationship poem in the morned times. We are suffering from from septation and alienation especially the old people have these problem. This is one think.
Another theme is relation to the narrator's feeling. She regret-ed her misbehavior. She did not go with the Grand mother. She died the pain of miss behavior hat's her.
The poem describes the grand mother. Through feud objects her dissertation is given " An unique shop" and " The faded silks" refer her old age. She have also become like an old object which people keep at home . She is lonely for her the shop is world .She watches her reflection in the brass utensils.
The Autobiographical elements begin with the second stanza. The narrator remembers her refusal. She did not want to go out with her grand mother. There was a fear that the grand mother would he with her like an old object. The grand mother was deeply hurt she could see it.
The Second stanza shows the grandma's with drawl from the outer world . She shays herself down the shop. She also shuts down into her room, her old age was growing and then she died. The last last stanza describes the loss of the grand ma. There is mo-body to look the reflection the narrator goes into the room . Thing were here that remind the grandma. But there was no living touch of her fingers only the dust was falling.
The death is suggested through the image of the dust direct statement " She died " is also mentioned . Even the moun " Sadows " indlcate the same thing side hoards and caphourds remind her absense. The adiective tall is they are " tall".
Simplicity of the poem is remarkable. Almost each line has at least one simple sentence, For examples..... She Kept, She watched, And i remember, I walked etc.....
